Fibres & hardener recovery: consolidating our results during 36M Consortium Meeting

REPOXYBLE just had its 36th month Consortium Meeting, hosted by our partner BOKU in the facilities of Institute of Waste Management and Circularity, in Wien.

We successfully achieved two more milestones: one is the recovery of the reinforcement fibres, the other is the recovery of the hardener component forming our thermoset through chemical recycling, allowing its re-use as building block in new reactions. A third milestone is in progress: the recovery of the monomer, which will be re-used in new reactions.

The recovery of composite’s components it’s one of the core aspects of REPOXYBLE. Thanks to our Depolimerization Closed Loop Epoxy resin system (DCLE), we successfully obtained fibres that are intact and in good conditions. To improve their quality and purity we’re now working to optimise the matrix solvolysis process, while further studies will be necessary to test the process compatibility with different substances.

Meanwhile, the testing of prepregs’ mechanical properties is continuing, and in the near future we will also perform the toxicity assessment and recyclability assessment.

Finally, we discussed how to improve these tests and how to proceed the scale-up of REPOXYBLE prepregs.
